NEED-A-SOURCE: Nepal Earthquake - One Year Later
Update From the Field: Plan International On-the-Ground in Nepal
/EINPresswire.com/ -- TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - April 18, 2016) - It has been nearly a year since the 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated Nepal on April 25, 2015, followed by a 7.3 magnitude earthquake on May 11, 2015. The two earthquakes claimed an estimated 8,964 lives, injured 21,952 and pushed an additional 700,000 people below the poverty line. The earthquakes decimated the education system in Nepal, leaving more than one million children without access to school.
Plan International has been at the forefront of the emergency response in Nepal, helping to deliver emergency aid to hundreds of communities devastated by the earthquake, distributing relief and working to rebuild communities in some of the worst affected areas.
Plan International has been able to help more than 287,000 individuals in the year since the earthquake, including 117,000 children. Plan International has supported children and their families in Nepal through the provision of emergency shelter, food and water and immediate access to temporary classrooms and schools and dedicated child protection facilities.
